Before demolition of your old kitchen, be sure
that you have all cabinets and parts that will
make up your new kitchen.
Before demolition be sure to shut off all
existing water, power and utility lines and
remove existing appliances to another room to
keep them out of the way.
After demolition, repair or replace walls that
have been damaged during the removal of the old
cabinets to ensure a solid foundation for the
new cabinets.
To ensure the cabinets will fit your area,
measure the cabinets and transfer the
measurements to the wall, creating an outline
of where the cabinets will be. If something doesn't look
correct, remeasure to ensure accuracy. This will allow you to
adjust cabinet unit selection if necessary,
prior to the purchase of cabinets.
Using a magnetic stud finder,
be sure to locate and mark the studs in the
wall where the cabinets will be. Cabinets must be attached to
the studs with appropriate screws to provide
sufficient support for cabinets and their
contents.
Doors and drawers can get
"dinged" during installation. Be sure to remove doors and
drawers prior to installation and store them in
a safe area.

Use masking tape to mark corresponding doors
and cabinets so you can match them up once
cabinets are installed.
It is more efficient to begin installation with
the upper wall cabinets as the base cabinets
will not be in the way.
Installing a ledger board to represent the
lower edge of the wall cabinets assists with
lining up the cabinets as well as holding them
while you screw them in place.
Begin cabinet installation in the corner of the
room and work out. This will ensure that
spacing is appropriate for all cabinet units.
When installing cabinets, do not tighten screws
until you are sure the cabinets are plumb and
level, using shims when necessary.
Use fillers to take up odd spaces when cabinets
are installed next to a wall or another
cabinet.
Use appropriate screws when fastening cabinets
to walls or to each other. This ensures a secure
attachment that can support both the cabinets
and their contents.
